Introduction

We will take you back to the centuries-old India that was rich in culture and spirituality. You will see where the famous Indian spices and tea come from. You will be one with nature and enjoy the beauty of its creations.

Day

Travel along the Western Ghats to the Queen of Hill Stations. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you pass through the Bandipur / Mudumalai national parks. Keep your eyes open to see peacocks, deer or an occasional elephant on the way. Be ready with your cameras to click a few nice nature shots.

Enjoy the smell of fresh tea as you see how the leaves are transformed into dust ready to make tea. Travel through the forests and mountains on the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway which maneuvers through the steep slopes and forests. The train has extra toothed wheels and notched rail for a better hold as the train moves through the steep slopes.

Reach the busy port city of Cochin, famous for its backwaters and the historical islands of Fort Cochin and Mattancherry. Cochin is from where the spices from Kerala go all over the world.

Explore the historical sites in Fort Cochin and Mattancherry. See the old Jewish Synagogue and watch the Chinese Fishing Nets being operated. Smell the spices as you walk the streets of the old city. Watch an enthralling performance of Kathakali, Kerala’s own dance form.

From sea level to hills of Munnar where tea plants cover the slopes like a green blanket. The mountains surrounding the town play hide and seek as mist envelopes them in its cool embrace. See the Madupetty Dam and tea museum. Do a little bargaining at the local market and have a good night’s sleep in the coolness of the hills.

Travel along the mountainous route along the Western Ghats, passing forests, waterfalls and valleys. Enter the wildlife reserve area of Periyar. Let the smells of spices waft to your nose as you walk through the spice plantation. The best spices come from here.

You can walk along the forest trail with a guide if you so wish. The afternoon will see you chugging on the waters of the Periyar Lake in a boat as you watch elephants and bison on the lake’s edge. You can also see many birds that fly above your head.

Roll down the slopes on wheels and reach the backwaters. Board a houseboat and wind your way through paddy fields, small islands and temples as the waterway take you.
