Cycling through the 1000-year-old monuments of the ancient royal capital of Ceylon you will see the richness of culture in those well-preserved ruins. The afternoon visit to the Sigiriya rock fortress is a photographer’s dream-come-true. With a large landscape covered with gardens, fountains, and pools your camera will be busy clicking. See the intricate fresco works on the mirror wall and wonder at the craftsmanship of the ancient Sri Lankans.

On the road to Kandy, the 1st Century BC Dambulla cave temples will keep you enthralled with 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings. There are more than 150 images of Buddha. The cave is dominated by a large carving of the Buddha spanning 14 meters. Pass the spice gardens on the way and enjoy their smell as you see Batik prints in various colors being done. At Kandy see the most famous Buddhist temple and have a drive around the Lake Area. Kandy is the most sacred place for Buddhists around the world.

Enjoy the most scenic train travel in your life as you travel to the Nanu Oya Railway station to go to the Tea capital of Nuwara Eliya. From the ancient kingdoms, you travel straight to the British era. With a cool weather throughout the year, this was the Britisher's summer retreat and aptly named Little England even today.

Arrive at the commercial capital of Sri Lanka to see the relics of Dutch and British rules still left behind. The buildings and churches at the Fort and Pettah areas remind one of the bygone English eras in Sri Lanka. The British military garrison still exists as well as an ancient Hindu temple with intricate stone carvings. The Church of Wolfendhaal built in 1749 stands testimony to the strong presence of the Dutch in ancient times.
