Gaze at the Qutub Minar and pray at the Jama Masjid. Drive around India Gate and stare in wonder at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Delhi has so much for the eyes to enjoy. At the end of the day don’t forget to treat your taste buds to some spicy Indian food.
From one ancient city on the banks of the Yamuna to another one driving on the most modern highways of India. You travel from Delhi where Humayun’s widow built his tomb to Agra where Shah Jahan built a memorial for his wife. See the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort and the Yamuna flow by on her journey to meet her mother, the Ganges. Agra is famous for its footwear and sweets.
On the drive from the city where emperors lived to the city where princes and the royal families still live in regal grandeur you see the erstwhile capital of the greatest of the Mughal emperors Akbar. You are received at Jaipur with bursts of colors everywhere. You can get some of the best hand-printed fabric from Jaipur.
Among the palaces in Jaipur the Hawa Mahal is proof of how much women were respected in ancient India. The king built a palace with latticed windows for the women to watch the life of the common man from behind them. Ride an elephant at the Amber fort and feel like a king yourself. Forget about your weight for a day and fill yourself with the tasty Rajasthani food.
From the deserts of Rajasthan travel to the lush greenery for Punjab. Amritsar is famous as the center of Sikh religion. Visit the Wagah border crossing between India and Pakistan and enjoy the show of strength from both sides. This is what separates two nations the people of which share the same ancestry and tradition.
Stare in wonderment at the golden dome of the Golden Temple. This is the religious seat of the Sikh religion. Get the blessings of the Sikh gurus and eat at the 24-hour dining hall where serving of food never stops. You can visit the famous Jallianwala Bagh which Indians can remember only with a tinge of sadness.
You have time till evening when you board your train to Delhi. There are many things to do in Amritsar like shopping, sightseeing and best of all eating. The unique Punjabi cuisine is quite addictive. You can wash down your food with a huge glass of Lassi. That should be a real sweet end to your tour of India. Catch your flight home after you reach Delhi by midnight. For those whose flights are late accommodation can be provided on request.
